A Change of Scenery

Kenneth driving on 3

For some time now, mainly because of a really hectic work schedule (normally 12+hr days) I’ve been playing the same disc golf course, Bryan Park. It’s a great course set in a historic park in Richmond Va. There are some monster holes and usually a good crowd there playing. But while I enjoy playing there, it was time for a change in scenery. This past weekend, while visiting my brother Kenneth (who recently became a father) out in Nashville, I had the opportunity to play a new course. While this course didn’t receive the highest reviews, Triple Creek Park in Gallatin, TN was most definitely a challenge. The first 9 holes were very wooded, and required me to use throws i don’t normally incorporate into my game. The course I usually play in Bryan Park consists mainly of wide open, really long holes but not a ton of technically challenging holes. The other main difference was the underbrush. All I can say is wow. I’ve played in some areas with pretty dense undergrowth, but I actually lost my favorite driver (i think for good this time…) in some of the worst stuff I have ever seen. So bad in fact that i took pictures of my brother and I as we searched for about an hour only to come up with nothing except a ton of mosquito bites and what sounded like a very pissed off snake. We need a bushhog What I realized, and I guess the larger point if there has to be one, is that getting out of my comfort zone and playing the new course really made me focus my game. I realized what areas I need to improve in, and was able to try some new throws (the tomahawk really came in handy) that i normally don’t need to throw. I highly recommend getting out beyond your normal course if you don’t already. I not only had the opportunity to improve my game, I had a really good time too.
