The Reasons We Play
If I ask ten different people why they play disc golf, I almost always get a top three type of answer. In no particular order, they are: because its a good time, becuase it’s cheap, because of the great sense of community among other disc golfers. Other answers I often get are; it’s challenging, it gives me something active to do outside, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
For me personally, it’s a combination of things as well. I can’t narrow it down to just one thing. I can’t even categorize my list into first, second, third and so on. I enjoy getting out side and enjoying the courses, I enjoy meeting people and learning about their experiences, I like to get away from the everyday problems and questions and stress, I like to challenge myself to play better (I’m very competitive and hate not to win).
It has never been about price for me, in fact, when I recently got back into disc golf, i went out and bought everything I could get my hands on. Sadly, there isn’t much literature out there on the sport and the stuff that is out there is poorly promoted, but thats another conversation. I would gladly pay for a really well designed, high end course, perhaps with a pro shop and a place to grab a snack. But I know for a lot of disc golfers, the reason they play is because it’s basically free.
If you are reading this and don’t play, or if you have recently moved and don’t know where to play in your new town, check out the site www.dgcoursereview.com Tell me why you play…
